Eleven Minutes

With Project Runway Canada well on it's way, the release of American, Project Runway winner, Jay McCarroll's documentary Eleven Minutes comes at an interesting time as we anticipate the winner of PRC2.

Last year at The Calgary International Film Festival, the fashion exponent to the festival allowed for viewers to watch the hectic fast paced life of the determined designer. I did a review a while ago, while working for The Reflector. It was often times funny as we watched McCarroll go through designing for New York Fashion Week and preparing for his big debut.

There has been a lot of Project Runway Canada talk on the blogs lately and some interesting points have been raised.

What do you think of Project Runway Canada so far?

Eeeek Reading Break! Not much reading lots of sleeping!

So we have been extremely slow over the week but alas we are back and working hard on keeping up with the rest of the month.

It's been an interesting month, I've been contacted for the first time about Calgary Fashion as an entity by media outlets twice in the same month. Which for us is very exciting!

Lincoln Philips, a very talented reporter with the Calgary Herald, stylist and fellow blogger interviewed me for his style column that comes out every week. I was fortunate to be in the Herald this week tooting our little horn about Calgary Fashion and my style preferences. A really lovely photographer came by and took my photograph for the column. Rather cool I must say!

I scrutinized everything printed, maybe it's the journalist in me but it really is pleasing when what is written about you makes you happy and reflects you for exactly who you are. I would say I am really pleased about the article and really honored that Lincoln asked me to be in his column!

To read the column go here ------------> On the (blog) spot for Fashion

I also did a guest spot for CJSW on Sunday evening!! Radio is a lot of fun! It's nice to be able to put a voice to words! Thank you Monice for making that happen for us!

It was New York Fashion Week last week and it's over! Insert sad face here!
I am really amazed and greatful for the coverage done by Vancouver bloggers from Stylefinds and The Conveyor Belt. They did an awesome job of twittering by the second and got some fabulous photographs. They did a very good job and I am very proud of them for taking that step forward!!! Way to go to put Canadian fashion bloggers on the map!

The Links á la Mode for this week are up!

Coming up for the rest of the week/end:
  • So we all know the drop crotch is mad this season! But did you know Calgary has been home to the drop crotch pant for a couple of years now?.......Yah, that's what we said! Stay Tuned for more! Feature for Friday!
  • Did Brandon seriously not know who Yves Saint Laurent was? Seriously? Find out what the newest Project Runway contestant to leave the show has to say about all that on Saturday
Hope you are all resting! Enjoy the links!

Love Day

Happy Valentines day everybody!!
As usual it's cold out but at least we have New York Fashion Week and the hard work being done by the Vancouver fashion bloggers to bring us the latest and up to the minute info on what's going down across the border!

In Calgary, things have been good, lots of events happening every week and the submission call for Factory Party 5 has been launched!

We've all been in separate directions doing our own thing and yesterday i'm pretty sure members of Calgary Fashion could be found at The ACAD fourth year photo show, Collectively Eclectic's Legacies: The Battle Show, and other major events.

It seems like the flu is slowly catching up with me but I am fighting it. I spent Friday evening inside although I really did plan to go to some of the events happening. Just way too tired and exhausted!

Thursday was TWESTIVAL and it rocked. It was really cool to put a face to all my Twitter buddies!

Anyways so Links Galore today, think of it as sharing the love with you all.

Hope you are all having a somewhat romantic day!

xoxo

It's Been A Long Week

Photo: Randy Gibson, Factory Party 3

So we've been a little slow with posting this week but only because we've been busy with photo shoots, Factory Party 4 CF installation planning, constructing and bouncing ideas between the team and not partying our butts off due to the state of American politics right now. Like the "leader of the free world" is doing, we have been working hard to take on new directions and teaming up collectively to push this lil blog ere a little further. Even though things have been hectic here there's a lot of stuff to post about.

I'm dividing this post into:

a. Sales cos I'm pretty sure you're gonna need a dress or a tie!

Photos: A Store Called Worth
  • A Store Called Worth (119, 1013 -17 Avenue SW) is continuing on with their super blow out sale preparing for the new spring line up. Word is some of the labels carried for the spring 09 season are sure to impress! Spring preview pieces from Greyhound and Wrath Arcane are now on the floor. The sale is up to 60% - 80% off this weekend with jewelry and accessories at 70% off! Trust me when I say this will blow your mind! Check out the Facebook Fan Page for details.

  • Kure Clothing's (111-880 16 Avenue SW) closing down sale is way underway and if you are like me and ever dreamed of enhancing your wardrobe/closet or in my case room with some mannequins and clothing racks then this sale is definitely worth checking out. Over half the fixtures are gone so hurry down for deals on dresses and jewelry!

    • Smyth and Kang's get ready for spring sale takes off this weekend as well!
  • Out with the old and in with the new is the theme behind Pink Sugar Boutique's annual-blow out sale (#105 1414 Kensington Road NW). The discounts are as follows:

Closeted

So I don't think I really have 'winter' clothing... I kind of just wear anything all year round, + layers + jackets. But, today looked so beautiful out it made me wish for spring to hurry up so I can run around without hiding behind a big ol' coat. Here are some cute looks I liked today.
I'm really into primary colours.
This is probably one I feel most comfortable in.
shirt and jeans all vintage, shoes by John Fluevog @ Gravity Pope
Crisp Porcelains, just seems so beautiful and classic
Dress by The Gap, shoes by Gravity Pope
The Comfiest. Stretch Cotton Knits are your friend
Shirt by H&M, Skirt by ZARA

I'll have more looks throughout the weeks. I got bored of changing.. so I'm back to the first look. There is just something about 80s new wave that has always appealed to me. Not only for the music, but maybe its the androgynous cuts or a punch of color in the right places. That era brought a whole new take on modern design. Forget Molly Ringwald, doesn't anyone remember Samantha Baker's bff's bedroom in 16 candles. Red and Glass shower squares part of her bedframe! Check out LELA ROSE and A.F. VANDEVORST Spring 09' collections for a similar vibe.
